Sonia ESTAL

Sonia (500RYT) has been practicing yoga for over 20 years and teaching for the past decade. With two decades of experience as a bodyworker, she brings a grounded, intuitive understanding of the human body into every class she leads. Her teaching blends anatomical insight, soulful movement, and thoughtful sequencing to help students connect the mind and body to Self.

Her passion for building intentional community and healing spaces led her to open Murphy House Yoga in 2016 and Tribe Yoga in 2017. From 2019 to 2023, she served as co-producer of the Ahimsa Yoga & Music Festival, which brought together yogis, musicians, and healers to create heart-centered spaces of celebration and connection. While she once focused on studio and festival management, Sonia’s journey has now shifted toward building safe, expansive containers for people to rediscover who they are—on and off the mat.

Today, she manages the SOL Center for Wellness, a multidisciplinary space rooted in holistic care and self-discovery. Sonia is also the co-creator of Essenem Journeys, a queer-led retreat company she founded alongside fellow teacher Meghan. Their retreats are transformational experiences rooted in movement, meditation, adventure, and deep presence—designed to hold brave and affirming space for your becoming. These retreats welcome anyone ready to explore what authentic living means to them, no matter where they fall on the spectrum of self-expression.

Sonia’s teaching style reflects her love for contrast. Her first yoga love is the precision and power of Hot Yoga (26&2), while her second is the quiet depth of restorative yoga. She’s recently been leaning into the creative edge of vinyasa flow, crafting sequences that blend traditional and modern asana, breathwork, primal movement, and somatic awareness—always anchored by a savasana that invites stillness from the inside out.

You can find Sonia teaching a 60-minute gentle yoga class on Monday nights and a 75-minute Hot Set (26&2) on Friday mornings. She also subs classes regularly—so check the schedule and come flow, ground, and (likely) sweat with her.

Expect music in her classes to reflect the mood and intention—whether it’s yin with melodic mantras, restorative set to ambient soundscapes, or a hot power class accompanied by old-school hip-hop or classic rock from Sonia’s era. Yes, there may be some explicit lyrics from time to time… because life isn’t always censored, and neither is the soul’s expression.

Off the mat, Sonia is the proud mother of two incredible teenagers who continue to teach her what it means to be fully present, wildly curious, and deeply true to herself. They remind her that authenticity isn’t a destination—it’s a daily practice.
